THE ROTARY CLUB OF JEDBURGH MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE 2008 - 2009
Significant to our Club projects in the coming year 2008-2009 it is the intention to raise the awareness of Rotary in the local areas and particular in Jedburgh. During this fiscal session the Membership Committee will adopt a positive approach towards giving the maximum of publicity to attract new members to our Rotary Club and our slogan is: PUBLICITY
P PUBLIC U UNDERSTANDING B BENEFITS L LOCAL &, I INTERNATIONAL C CHARITY I INITIATIVES T THIS Y YEAR THIS IS YOUR CLUB WEBSITE WWW.ROTARY INTERNATIONAL OUR OBJECTIVES: We have chosen this methodology which is linked into several others activities having opportunities to let the public see that Rotary is determined to be seen as an organisation which benefits the communities in which we live and to welcome new membership, especially men and women who can pledge their services over many years. The club stands at 31 members which is proactive.
Ideally, an age group 40 years or there about, would sustain the survival of the club in years ahead. Therefore it is the objective of all club members to bring along a friend, or guest to one of our club meetings in the expectation that we can invite any prospective candidate to join us.
The members of the committee are preparing for such events and our strategy is designed to make this a memorable year by increasing our numbers.
The International logo:
Make Dreams Real: Tugs at the very foundations of our origins, launching a poignant dramatic statement, this symbolic logo is so strong that its creation impacts upon our Club objectives, acting as the catalyst that supports many ideas which embrace Rotary’s International concept for the coming years, our world wide proclamations is to continue to recognise the importance of cancer research.
KIDS 4 SCHOOL: For instance; is launched to give financial and practical help to children in some African communities who desperately need proper schooling facilities. One particular scheme involves building a bridge over a ravine to allow children to walk to school in safety.
Such a simple thing but without adequate backing the deprivation seems almost unreal in this modern world we live in. Can you imagine what this dream will mean?
Local club endeavours
One project under deliberations is to raise funds to provide a dialysis unit for the Border General Hospital. It is expected that all Clubs in the Borders Zone will adopt this principle and collectively, a target figure of around £30.000 is proposed.
This in reality gives each club the opportunity to raise £1.000.
At present there are not enough units in the BGH wards, therefore patience need to travel from the Border towns to Newcastle for regular treatments. Just imagine the savings in time and effort.
OVERSEAS
We remain committed to the eradication of Polio, especially 3rd world countries and lend our undivided attention on many small villages in Africa which depend upon education facilities, fresh water and medical assistance and by giving financial backing we will enable those who need help to enjoy a better quality of life.
These special areas are just a few purposeful projects which will require sustaining in years ahead, not just for a short term.
Currently a major support framework is in place in partnership with the Jedburgh Health Centre to raise funds to provide nursing to administer treatment and inoculations of insulin to children and adult who suffer from diabetes.
This scheme was launched early this year and already there is funding available to sustain this type of support over the coming two years and more.
Jedburgh club has handed over a cheque for £1,100 to Doctor Niall Campbell GP is the project leader.
So far this year the membership committee have agreed to advertise in public places around the town. We continue to display a small notice in the shops which says, We Support Jedburgh Rotary Club
An awareness notice is present in the town’s library, visitors centre and we have taken advantage of placing our logo advert in the programmes of local entertainment programmes, a cheap but good method of giving the club recognition.
Early in April we took over an empty shop premise in the town, this proved to be an excellent way to let the town’s people see a catalogue of Rotary’s achievements since its inception as a club from 1975. The selection of pictorial achieves, banner displays and general information all about rotary filled a three window unit in a central location. The display lasted 3 months. Many accolades have been received.
We held a fashion show in May at the Edinburgh Woollen Mill; this was a most enjoyable evening. A total of £500.0 pounds was raised.
Our interest in the internet continues to flourish, whilst not deploying a hands on business involvement, the club seeks the advice and support from a local internet agency who act on our behalf, subject to commission, so we have raised over £1,200 pounds.
The committee is delighted to note that our club conveyors are continuing to make plans and provisions in their selected areas of responsibilities. Through their connections we have seen many visitors come to the club, an emphasis on youth in the form of best head boy and girl together with a special opportunity for the most deserving student who wishes to fulfil a leadership course.
We have welcomed the Jedburgh Gallant and his Henchmen. A proud time for Jedburgh’s best who continue to show iconic examples to our today’s youth.
These activities might appear perhaps perfunctory to a thriving club such as ours, but we constantly ensure that any project worthy of consideration is properly discussed and implemented to good cause. And of course to give something back to the community.
It is intended to continue to update the membership reports over a regular basis by adding current events, it is so easy to overlook this form of electronic update, but the internet is a wonderful invention.
I thank you for taking the time to read about our club, the membership meets each Thursday at 6.0pm in the Carters Rest Restaurant, Jedburgh. We will be delighted to make your acquaintance and look forward to meeting you.
