On Saturday 6th December the club ran another Scottish Rotary National Grayling Fishing Competition to raise money for charity. The previous event had to be postponed three times, so on this occasion it was with considerable relief that the weather was a lot kinder, even though the river was higher than normal. Nearly 40 competitors did their best to catch some of the elusive Grayling on the River Teviot. At the results centre, kindly provided by Hawick Angling Club, there were some anxious times since no-one had brought in a recorded catch! Finally two successful anglers came in at the end. They had each caught a single fish, and both fish were the same size, therefore we had Joint first prize, which they very sportingly asked to have split between them. Tom McLeish and Chris Hosker were the successful fishermen, and well done in the difficult conditions! Jedburgh Rotary Club were also winners as we managed to raise over £450 for charity, thanks to the generosity of the following: Hawick Angling Club Jedforest Angling Association Lothian Estates Nisbet Syndicate Hardy & Greys Ltd Border Guns Daiwa Sport Shakespeare Glasgow Angling Centre As well as many others, both individuals and companies. The 2009 event will run on Saturday 5th December, so look out for details nearer the time!
