BUGSEE for Halloween (26 October 2007)

SCHOOLS, nurseries and youth groups in the Jedburgh area can now make sure there hands are germ-free, thanks to the generosity of the local rotary club and Brian Currie the Rotarian with the vision to lead the project to its launch to the Jedburgh and wider area population.
A special ‘light box’ and ‘Glowgerm’ hand gel have been sponsored by Jedburgh Rotary Club and these items of equipment, are now available to groups in the town and surrounding area.
The special gel is rubbed on the hands, which are then washed. The light box then shows up whether the hand-washing has been effective enough to remove all traces of the gel.
The gel is intended to simulate dirt or bacteria on areas of skin.
At Howdenburn Primary School earlier this week, the new gadget was put through its paces for the benefit of pupils in a demonstration by NHS Borders hand hygiene co-ordinator.
This is part of the wider National Hand Hygiene Campaign to reduce the spread of germs through improved hand hygiene.
“Poor hand hygiene is the primary route for the spread of infection. It is particularly important for people visiting friends or relatives in hospital to be particularly careful about hand hygiene, and to use the hand gels provided before they go into the wards.”

This is a very worth cause and can significantly reduce the spread of disease.  If you are interested in finding out more and would like to support this project please follow the link.  The Jedburgh Rotary Club would be delighted to provide assistance  and advice.
The website for hand hygiene is www.washyourhansofthem.com.

Visit from Mr John Lamont MSP (November 7th 2007)

The Club was very pleased to have the local MSP to address us.  Mr Lamont gave a very amusing talk on the his experiences as a first timer MSP in the Scottish Parliament.  This provided a little glimpse in to the working and emerging customs of the parliament and in many ways opened our eyes to the pressures that come from such responsibilities.

Rotarian Ian Davies sensing an opportunity to promote the Scottish Rotary national Grayling Competition the Jedburgh Club are hosting on the 1st December 2007,  presented Mr Lamont with a poster for the Parliaments notice board.

Following the talk a full and testing question and answer session took place.
