Grayling Fishing Competition

The Scottish Rotary National Grayling Fishing Competition will be run this year on Saturday 1st December 2007. For many areas this is the start of grayling fishing as on the Tweed catchment salmon fishing finishes on 30th November. In 2006 we had several days of rain which resulted in high water levels, however, the event went ahead and despite the 'challenging' conditions some good fish were landed.

For the 2007 event we will be hoping for a bit less water! The fishing will stretch from near Hawick down to below Jedburgh, so we can accommodate a lot of fishermen. The amount of fishing available is due to the generosity and support of the Hawick Angling Club, Jedforest Angling Club and Lothian Estates. In the stretch are some of the best and biggest Grayling in Scotland, in fact we have a wonderful prize offered to anyone breaking the Scottish record on the day of the competition.
Prize donations have again been very generous and we are very grateful to everyone for their amazing support for this event which not only brings fishermen together for an enjoyable days fishing, but we never lose sight of the fact that this is for a very worthy cause.

The money raised from the Grayling Fishing competitions has already helped towards the building and repair of Fishermens boats destroyed or damaged by the Tsunami disaster several years ago. Look at our Tsunami page on this website to see pictures of the new boats!

Last Year we held an 'Eve of Event' get together which seemed very popular. We had a number of displays and an informal talk from Kenny Galt of the Tweed Foundation about his work on the project 'Tweed Trout and Grayling Initiative'. It was good to have an update on their progress and we hope to run a similar event this year as well.
The entry forms and rules are available to print off here, so if you would like to enjoy a great day's fishing, please get your entry form filled in and sent off today!
